DON'T CALL US THAT

alternate title: another transparent picture where emma literally does not even attempt a background christ how can they possibly be that hard

hey, whoa, look, art! it feels like I've hardly drawn at all in the past month. I've been hella busy working, going to class (I'm taking a summer class at a community college), doing an illustration job, and actually having a bizarrely active social life. it's all very foreign to me.

I've been working on a threadless design for forever now and all I really have to do is play around with the orientation, but I've been putting it off. and I've been doing some sketches for the illustration job (it's a bunch of good old cheesy superhero comics for united way), but I'll probably upload everything together when I'm done because it's pretty boring on its own.

BUT JEEZ maybe I should talk about the actual picture! somehow between all that I found the time to watch kid's shows, and disney's new cartoon gravity falls is...surprisingly funny...it's probably the same caliber as adventure time, although I was never really into that. the writing is super sharp, and I love the main characters because they foil each other perfectly without overdoing their respective tropes (mabel delivers a lot of the ~zany~ ~random~ lines aimed at the younger audience, so I prefer dipper, but I like them both really).

I'm not really sure if I have a distinctive style for humans yet, so I decided to just impersonate the show's style as best as I could. I didn't exactly nail it, but I came pretty close! and man I even pulled off that stupid anime hair shine, somehow. I can normally never get that to work but it looks alright here. huh. cel shading is pretty fun when you know what you're doing.

I'm also happy that I managed to get some actual character interaction/poses that are mildly engaging going on, instead of just...standing...static..little victories, ok.

anyway dang sorry about the novel I should have just written a journal. oops. kiiiiinda thinking about switching accounts soon so this might be one of the last things you see from me over here! MYSTERIOUS

dipper and mabel are disney's, art is mine

the first episode is free on itunes! and the others are easily found on google haha. it's sort of in the vein of scooby doo, but with some really sharp dialogue and a bit more emphasis on the humor. and thank you (':
